With increasing need to innovate to compete and the accelerating speed in which this happens, It seems like being able to plan ahead is becoming a key advantage in business. Therefore I am wondering if there might be an increased desires from companies to find out what their future market and business might look like.

If so, does designers play a role in it or is it reserved for researchers?
